Good Morning! Another beautiful, hot, sunny day in North Texas. Today I'm on Psalm 3. I love this Psalm. The first thing that I'm struck by is that David, the author of this Psalm, is struggling with his enemies, and here we find Him running to God to rescue him. This is a wonderful example for us. So often we don't look solely to God until all else has failed us.
I also find it interesting that people taunted David for trusting in God (v.2). David's trust in God, was obvious to all those around him, and some of them reacted negatively. That will happen to us too, and sometimes it hurts. But Jesus said we are blessed when it does. Here are a couple of cross references for v. 2 - Ps. 22:7,8 Ps. 71:11-16.
In the "What did you learn about God?" section for Psalm 3 I listed all the different things I learned about God our rescuer: He is our shield, He lifts our (despondent) heads, He watches over us when we sleep, He rescues us, and VICTORY comes from Him alone!
God bless!

In verse 4 I'm fascinated by the fact that, long before our 21st century ideas of God, David "cried out to the Lord" and "He answered him from on high!" Somehow, David heard from the God and knew it was HIM!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeri.It really is something to ponder how these Old Testament men and women knew the Lord. God is always looking at the heart!
ReplyDeleteI am studying PS 3 today. I am very mindful these days of our nation's fight for our Constitution to remain as is! It's very curious to me why there is such a fight and who is on which side of that freedom. Huge subject I know, but when I meditate on these early chapters in Psalms, I see a man running for his life literally with an army looking to destroy him--simply because of his position with God.
ReplyDeleteDavid was able to identify his perilous situation (Ps 3:1-2), rest in the middle of it (Ps 3:5), and remain seeking refuge in the Lord (Ps 3:7-8).
Last summer I was in this exact spot studying Ps 2. I remember being so comforted in the message that ultimately this fight is Gods. The end of Ps 2 rings in my heart even now..."O blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are all those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him!" To me, David sought refuge in the Lord as a normal and supreme part of life--not unusual. Nancy, you're right that all too often, we've learned how to survive without the Lord until we are all out of answers. I am learning continually that from my Father's perspective, running to the Lord FIRST is normal and very blessed.
I found this old song of this Ps! Still a great song!

Chrissy - What a great song for Psalm three. I love your summary of this Psalm. You inspired me to reread it. I think it's the answer to facing any fear or intimidation. "I will not be afraid...!"
