PSALM 1

Hey All,

This summer I am going through "The Psalms of the Bible" again. As often as possible, my husband Bill and I do the day's Psalm together. We finally got our sitting garden going and that's where we enjoy the study. Yeah!

Some thoughts from Psalm 1; I found the mention of fruit bearing in v. 3 really interesting:

"They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all that they do."

There are so many references to bearing fruit in the New Testament. Here are two that I really enjoyed; Philippians 11:1 and John 15:16 (below):

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."

By delighting in His Word and meditating on it day and night, we can be fruitful and not barren in our walk with Christ. God bless!

  1. Throughout my life I often despaired that I was not bearing fruit, fruit in the sense that I was not doing anything for the Lord directly. I tried many things, but He did not bless it - my efforts lead to nothing.
The other day on reading Psalm 1, verse 3 in the Afrikaans Bible, translating directly back to English it says: "They are like trees planted next to a river, that bear fruit at the right time", the Spirit in the way He speaks to us, said, "Do you hear that, the right time? No fruit tree bears fruit all year long, they must bear it at the season We ordained. The rest of the year it is not just being useless, it is growing stronger, it is preparing to bear fruit again - at the right time. So also, people must bear fruit at the right time, the rest of the time you must rest, prepare and grow stronger. Those days are not wasted meaningless days, they are as blessed as the days that you will bear fruit."
I was wondering if someone else out there in the world wide web also sometimes feel the same way I used to, if so, the good news is: if He hasn't a mission for you, a work to do for Him, right now, it is because He is busy preparing you - be ready, for the right time.

  2. Reen,

That's an amazing insight as only the Lord can really give. Thank you so much for sharing it. I am encouraged by it as well. God is good,
    all the time.
